The Arts at DSHA

From dancing to weaving, acting to handbells, singing to fashion design and everything in-between, the Fine Arts Department at DSHA has something for everyone. Our students and faculty are award-winning, consistently showcasing their talents throughout Southeastern Wisconsin, the greater Midwest and across the country.

On campus, we perform on the stage of the state-of-the-art Robert & Marie Hansen Family Fine Arts Theatre. Our talent is prominently exhibited in the Fridl Family Foyer art display. Our talents are celebrated at assemblies, masses and special events both here at DSHA and all over the United States. And we don't stop there...our successes translate into the math, science and language classrooms as well.

Perhaps you have never stretched a canvas or read a note of music. Maybe you prefer something a little more behind-the-scenes. It's possible that you've spent your lifetime mastering your unique artistic talents. Whatever your experience level, the Fine Arts Department at DSHA welcomes you all.

Open PFAA Board Positions for 2017-18
Some of our current PFAA board members will be moving on as their seniors graduate this spring so we are looking for interested people who might want to shadow and learn more about these roles before the current year ends. Some of the positions we will need help with next year include vice president, treasurer, volunteer coordinator, and poster coordinator. None of these jobs are especially hard and they all come with past history notes about what needs to be done and when. Feel free to join us at an upcoming PFAA meeting or reach out to PFAA President Nicole Koenings (Koenings.onthego@sbcglobal.net) with questions.  If you aren’t ready to commit to a specific named position we are always looking for At Large members to give new insights and perspectives. Anyone who has a daughter involved in any fine arts discipline at DSHA is welcome to attend our meetings.

Upcoming Orchestra Performances – Volunteers Needed!
Orchestra is preparing to celebrate Catholic Schools Week with a performance at the 11 a.m. liturgy at St. John's Cathedral on Sunday January 29. The orchestra will be featured on the prelude in Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring, Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus will be played for communion and the orchestra will conclude with a  postlude of the Hallelujah Chorus.  The orchestra will accompany the congregation on the opening and closing hymns. Volunteers are needed to help with bringing music stands and assorted percussion equipment to the church on Friday afternoon (January 27). We also need help with setup on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. and help taking everything down at the end of the Mass and transporting stands back to DSHA.

On February 19, the DHSA orchestra will play for the 11:30 a.m. liturgy at Gesu Church at Marquette with a 30 minute prelude concert starting at 11 a.m. We will again be needing volunteers to help move stand and equipment to and from Gesu.

Update From the PFAA
Thank you to everyone who volunteered for the many volunteer slots during The BFG. It was so nice to see so many new faces jumping on board.

The next PFAA meeting is April 7, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the board room. We have lots of events coming up in April and May, and we also will be having a discussion about the Fine Arts Woman of the Year (no names will be named—it’s a secret!)  We may need to modify the bylaws regarding this important recognition. Also: there are a number of board positions opening up, including vice president, secretary, refreshment coordinator, raffle basket coordinator, and flower coordinator. These positions are currently held primarily by parents of DSHA seniors. All of them are important, but most of them do not involve a huge amount of work, and none require constant attention. The PFAA asks that you prayerfully consider whether you are the right person for one of these opportunities. They are fun, easy and a great way to be involved in making DSHA a place of high quality.
