Welcome to DSHA Theatre

Theatre Department Courses, Philosophy & Goals

My fellow thespians,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Theatre Arts here at DSHA High School. DSHA’s reputation of excellence does not stop in the classroom or on the athletic fields. Our renowned Theatre Department’s fun and professional reputation rivals all other programs in Wisconsin. Our one-of-a-kind facility includes a state-of-the-art main stage theatre, a smaller black box performance space, a fully equipped scene-shop, rehearsal studio, top of the line sound and lighting technology, eight theatre classes to choose from each year and two full-time theatre faculty. If you are interested in performance or technical theatre, the opportunities to utilize this facility are endless.

We produce two large-scale musicals a year to sold-out audiences. We also produce two non-musicals a year in the winter and spring. Our active Drama Club performs small-scale student shows and organizes annual trips to New York, Chicago and England.  Every winter and spring we also have a performance showcase open to the entire student body. If you love to perform there is always an outlet for you whether you are just starting out or have been performing for years.

If you want to gain experience in construction and engineering, then technical theatre is just for you. Led by our phenomenal technical director Mrs. Amanda Marsala, every show is designed and constructed by DSHA students in our theatre scene shop. Whether you’ve picked up a tool before or not you can gain experience and confidence working on any of our annual productions. Our cast and crew sizes range anywhere from 20 to 120 and our goal is to give as many students an opportunity to be involved as we possibly can. Not only do we strive to put on professional quality productions, but we teach the importance of fun, responsibility, leadership, teamwork and self-confidence. We strive to create an atmosphere in our classrooms and our productions that allow students to step outside their comfort zones, take risks and ultimately become more confident and creative young women.

If you have a passion for performance or technology and want to learn in a caring hands-on environment, then DSHA theatre is the place for you!

Sincerely,

Mr. Michael Stoddard
Director of Theatre
