Introduction

The purpose of co-curricular programs at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School is to enhance the educational experience and contribute to the development of the qualities of the DSHA graduate.  Specifically, students may find that  involvement in co-curricular activities has the following benefits:

    • Enhances a student’s academic experience at DSHA
    • Contributes in a meaningful way to a student’s development of the Qualities of a DSHA Graduate
    • Provides opportunities to explore new interests
    • Provides opportunities to develop skills

A variety of club opportunities are offered twice a month from 7:50 – 8:30 am, unless otherwise noted.  This period is provided during the school day so as not to interfere with students' after school responsibilities.

Clubs Offered 

ASL Club: ASL Club is designed to celebrate and learn about American Sign Language. ASL is one of the leading world languages and many of our students come into contact with native speakers and wish to learn more. We celebrate Deaf Culture as well as work to improve awareness among the wider school community. Anyone is welcome, those with little to no exposure and others who may be fluent in ASL.

Asian Club: The purpose of Asian Club is to enrich the student body with knowledge of the variety of Asian cultures, languages and studies concerning a variety of Asian Groups. Asian club is open to ALL students with an interest in Asian cultures. A student in Asian Club will be introduced to various languages, be informed of Asian festivals and events, sample Asian dishes, music, films, learn about Asian holiday traditions and participate in school wide culture related activities.

Best Buddies Wisconsin, DSHA Chapter: This organization, new to DSHA, will pair DSHA students with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities from the surrounding communities to create one-to-one friendships.  This program will allow DSHA students to help their buddies become integrated into the friendships and the societies from which they feel excluded because of their disability.  DSHA participants will have the opportunity to develop their own leadership skills because whether she joins this organization as part of a one-to-one friendship or as an associate member, this is a rewarding way in which they can serve the community.  A one-to one friendship requires that the students participating will contact her best buddy once each week, attend chapter meetings, and have face-to-face contact with her buddy 1 – 2 times or more each month.  Associate members will mainly attend the group outings with all of the one-to-one friendship pairs to gain more experience before committing to serving as a best buddy.

Book Club: The purpose of this club is to encourage and foster a love of reading among DSHA students. This is your chance to make friends as you share analytical discussions about modern and classical works of literature.

Campus Ministry Council: The Campus Ministry Council (CMC) strives to realize the mission of Jesus Christ within our school community by providing the student body with various opportunities to bring their faith to life. It seeks to engage students as leaders and participants in prayer, liturgy, service, and social justice awareness.  With a focus on Advent, Lent, and Catholic Schools Week, the Campus Ministry Council aims to nurture students’ faith by engaging them in ministry throughout the liturgical year.  CMC leaders realize the great value of a lived faith, and aim to develop a vibrant faith community where all are welcome.

Creative Expressions Club: Creative Expressions is a fun relaxing way to start your morning. By joining, you can participate in various arts and crafts. There will be food that will bring you back to your fun childhood memories. We will also be voting on a charitable cause and work on it throughout the school year. We meet every club day in room 4.

Cycling Club: This non-competitive club meets several days a week during the spring of the year for after school cycling along the Menomonee River Parkway and Oak Leaf Trail.  Meet new people in other grades, come for the fun, come for a great cardiovascular workout.  Listen for announcements and watch for signs posted  in the spring announcing our schedule.

Dasher Dance Team: The Dasher Dance Team is a competitive group that performs a variety of styles, including pom, jazz, and hip hop, at home basketball games and school assemblies. The dance team participates in 3 to 4 competitions each school year including a dance intensive summer camp. The team practices 1-2 times a week for 2-3 hours each practice. The season begins with practices in June and concludes in March. Auditions are held in April to select the following year's team.

Drama Destination Club: The Drama Destination Club meets quarterly to plan and organize yearly theatre-based trips that give DSHA students opportunities to travel to New York City, London or Chicago where they can experience theatre workshops and professional productions.  Other club times are utilized to implement and rehearse performance-based fundraisers in order to make these trips affordable to everyone. The club fosters self confidence, public speaking, leadership, and camaraderie as a team.

Ecology Club: Discover the fascinating world of wildlife in Ecology Club.  From the exotic animals of Africa and Asia to the ones that call Wisconsin home, we’ll learn about their unique characteristics, way of life and how we can help with their conservation and continued survival. Additionally, opportunities will be available to experience nature firsthand and contribute to the conservation of our Earth’s plants and animals.

Fandom Club: Think you’re the only fan of something in the whole school? Afraid there’s no club devoted to your favorite book series or television show? Fandom is a club devoted to the celebration of being a fan. Whether you’re a fan of Harry Potter or Halo, Glee or Gandalf, join fellow Dashers to share your favorite whatever with girls who understand waiting in line for a midnight opening. Join the kingdom of fans—Fandom.

FBLA: Are you considering a career in business?  Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization of high school students with an interest in business. The goal of FBLA is to help prepare students for the world of business through leadership development programs.  The opportunity to compete in events at regional, state and national levels help build students' business knowledge and skills while having fun, traveling & meeting new people!

Finer Things Club: This club, inspired by the show "The Office", exists solely for the purpose of discussing the fine things of life and eating fine food.  Club members will enjoy a plethora of wildly entertaining conversations pertaining to books, music, broadway, and other cultural paraphernalia.  Along with presenting amusing anecdotes, the Finer Things Club, moderated by world-class raconteur Miss Lundberg, will indubitably start your Wednesday in a fine way.                                                           Moderator: Ms. Rissie Lundberg

Forensics Team: Directly linked to the DSHA Qualities of the Graduate, the art of Forensics fosters a student's skills as a believer, a leader, a critical thinker, and a communicator.  Students prepare and deliver speeches that inform, influence, and entertain.  There are a variety of genres from which students can choose; some of the most popular are original oratory, persuasion, informative, dramatic interpretation, humorous interpretation, serious interpretation, prose/poetry interpretation, original performance, and extemporaneous commentary to name a few. The DSHA Forensics Team competes against other Southeastern Wisconsin High School teams at tournaments held during the Spring season; while the competitive season is in Spring, students must exhibit commitment during the whole school year, as in the off season, they must prepare and rehearse their pieces.  Time commitment during the Spring season is a once to twice a week practice with the coach and participation in a minimum of 3 tournaments during the season; tournaments are held on weeknights and Saturdays.  A student's successful season will lead to competition at a state and national level.  An annual fee will be charged for this activity.

French Club: Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of French cultural activities involving art, cuisine, fashion, films, holiday traditions, etc.  It is not necessary to be a French student to join.  Our goal is to promote understanding and appreciation of the language, culture, and people of France and other francophone countries.

Friends of Islam: The purpose of this club is to encourage recognition for and understanding of the religion of Islam.  Goals include celebration of a wide range of Muslim cultures and to have fun while learning about the various traditions.  This club will allow Muslims and non-Muslims to form an enjoyable acquaintance and try to understand the religious backgrounds of one another.  A prime purpose of this club is also to dispel common stereotypes and serve as an “open window” for any student who would like to learn about a certain aspect of Islam.  Everyone is welcome to join this club.

Furia Latina Club “Querer es poder”: Furia Latina is dedicated to our appreciation of the Hispanic culture while discussing topics of interest to Latinas, by getting together with other clubs to celebrate and promote Latino culture. Furia Latina attempts to support and help its members be successful academically and socially here at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, by meeting as a group and supporting each other.  This group exists to support its members, to educate DSHA students in general, organize Spanish speaking parents and get them more involved in school activities.  Experience the real Latino culture and come join Furia Latina!

G.R.A.Y.  (Girls Running All Year): Club members plan to meet every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (outside of Cross Country and Track seasons) to go for a run.  Different runs will include scavenger hunts, sprinting exercises, relays and regular jogs.  The idea is to stay in shape during the winter.  Members can come as often as they are able, and are encouraged to bring friends. No commitment is necessary, but members should come as often as possible to reach their goal of staying in shape.

Knitting and Fibers Club: Come and knit, crochet and work with fleece.  All levels welcome, beginners to experienced!  Bring yourself and learn or bring knitting or crochet needles if you have them, and yarn to try.  This is a very low key, relaxing club activity.  Come find out the details of how you can contribute – even if you can’t make every meeting.  We will meet in the art suite.

Latin Club: Latin Club is run by a board of elected student officers.  Activities include preparing for the annual Wisconsin Junior Classical League Latin Convention, planning and enjoying a Roman banquet each spring during National Foreign Language Week, and planning services projects and activities.  Elections for the following school year are held each spring.

Literary Magazine: Students may contribute poetry, creative writing, art, or photography to an annual magazine.  Student editors organize, design, and edit this outlet for students’ creative energies.  Magazine is published in spring.  The Myriad student magazine is open to any student of any level.

Raise Awareness Club: The purpose of this club is to raise awareness of important issues and events going on in our world.  Club members work to involve students in service opportunities and other important events in the community.

Record Collection: The Record Collection is a club dedicated to the celebration and exploration of music.  Students will come together to learn music history, share new music with one another and of course, listen to music.  Some meetings will be dedicated to the exploration of a certain genre or type of music while other meetings will focus on a particular theme in music.  Students who are looking to expand their musical horizons and enjoy the company of their peers  will enjoy becoming part of the Record Collection.

Red Ribbon Club: Red Ribbon Club promotes drug-free activities throughout the DSHA community.  Public service announcements, fund raising for alcohol and drug treatment programs, and activities held during Red Ribbon Week are the cornerstones of this club.  Students from all grade levels are welcome to join.

Respect Life Club: The purpose of the Respect Life Club is to promote awareness of life issues such as abortion, euthanasia, aging, dying, mental illness, brain disorders, etc.  Members actively help to organize activities to help the poor and marginalized.

Robotics Club: Calling all artists, scientists, engineers or anyone who wants to experience the fun and challenge of robotics. Join us for a  new club experience.  Robotics began at DSHA in conjunction with Marquette High Schools FIRST Robotics team. Students interested in engineering and robotics for pleasure and as a possible career will work during club meetings in collaboration with the MUHS Robotics team. Experiences may include building, programming, and operating robots, Web design, marketing design and encouraging team spirit in preparation for and at competitions. Sisters of Culture: The purpose of Sisters of Culture (SOC) is to celebrate the ethnic backgrounds and cultures of the DSHA community. Our mission is to spread awareness and honor all cultures. In addition, we encourage outside service work within the greater Milwaukee community.

Spanish Club: The purpose of the club is to provide a hands on, opportunity to explore and enjoy Spanish language and culture. Planned activities such as attending foreign films, working with Spanish recipes and other events, should allow students to connect in a diverse and casual environment.  It is not necessary to be a Spanish student to join.

Tri M Music Honor Scoiety: The purpose of this organization is to honor students for academic and music involvement ans scholarship.

Yearbook: The Yearbook staff is responsible for producing DSHA's annual Retrospect.  Under the direction and guidance of a faculty advisor, staff members determine the format for each edition of the yearbook.  They also select the photos, design the layouts, and write the copy.  In a collaborative effort, the advisor and staff attempt to create a highly positive portrait of the DSHA community.  This is a club and is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and usually meets after school, rather than during club times.

Yoga Club: Namaste Club will meet during orchid club times to learn yoga techniques, practice yoga, relieve stress and have an occasional healthy snack.
